Viagra Medicine: Side Effects

Main Viagra Features

Viagra has long established itself as a reliable remedy for restoring potency and fighting erectile dysfunction. The active substance of this drug, Sildenafil citrate, was synthesized by specialists of the American pharmaceutical concern Pfizer in the early 1990s. The drug hit the market in 1998 and immediately became a sensation, overthrowing all the previously existing means for increasing potency, which were either unsafe for health and acted on the principle of narcotic substances, or represented general tonic drugs and vitamins. Since then, millions of men around the world have had the opportunity to forget about erectile dysfunction forever and keep on hand this effective means for securing in case of bed problems.

Normally, it is prescribed to take Viagra about an hour before sexual activity. It is important to get into a romantic mood and not expect from your body an immediate reaction to the drug, because it begins to act only when you are experiencing sexual desire. That is why Viagra is not used in those cases when erectile dysfunction is caused by a decrease in libido as a result of hormonal failures or reception of certain medications.

Dosage

Viagra is produced in the form of blue pill with a dosage of the active substance of 25, 50 and 100 mg. The instructions for use for all three versions of the drug are the same and contain recommendations for all dosages. Thus, 25 mg tablets are usually used for mild problems with potency and for prolonging sexual intercourse. 50 mg pill will suit men who regularly face an insufficient erection. A dosage of 100 mg will help patients with neglected erectile dysfunction. Also they are prescribed for combating premature ejaculation.

With regard to efficacy and individual tolerability, the average dose of 50 mg can be increased to 100 mg or reduced to 25 mg. Do not exceed the maximum daily dosage of 100 mg of Sildenafil and keep in mind that the side effects when taking Viagra 100 mg can be expressed more strongly than with other dosages.

Contraindications of Viagra

Along with an impressive list of useful properties, Viagra, like any relatively serious medicine, has a number of contraindications and side effects. Let’s consider its main contraindications.

First of all, this medicine is not recommended for men having cardiovascular diseases in the anamnesis. Unfortunately, few people have an absolutely healthy heart when they start experiencing troubles with potency, so you need to weigh carefully all the pros and cons before buying Viagra. It is strongly recommended that you consult with your doctor and undergo a medical examination if you have arrhythmia, stenocardia, ischemic heart disease or severe heart failure.

Viagra is prohibited if a man suffers from stomach ulcer in the acute stage or has retinitis pigmentosa (it is a fairly rare hereditary eye disease). Also, contraindications include chronic leukemia, arterial thrombosis, anatomical deformities of the penis, with caution – in case of Peyronie’s disease.

Side Effects of Viagra Tablets

As for the side effects of Viagra, the most frequent are the following:

  • stuffiness in the nose
  • headache right after taking the pill or the next morning
  • a rush of blood to the skin of the face
  • change in color perception, reminiscent of color blindness (surrounding objects are painted in blue or green tones).

Less often, patients experience tinnitus, palpitations (tachycardia), dyspepsia or diarrhea.

It is very important to learn about these side effects prior to taking Viagra. Then you will not be afraid of sudden unpleasant sensations and will know that they are not dangerous for your body. However, if the heart rate becomes very fast, you experience chest pain or difficulty breathing even through the mouth, it is best not to repeat taking the pill and instead of it seek medical advice. Such symptoms may indicate an individual intolerance to Sildenafil, an allergy to this medicine, and be the signal to reduce the dose or even refuse to take these pills.

Nevertheless, it should be mentioned that often side effects are expressed at most at the first intake of this medication. At subsequent intakes, they tend to become less manifested and even completely disappear, in the meanwhile as the effectiveness of the drug in terms of improving the erection remains at the same level. Also, Viagra does not cause any physiological or psychological addiction, except that you can be nervous that without a treasured pill you will not succeed in bed, but this is a normal property of the human psyche, and in this case the word “pill” can be easily replaced with “lucky nasal shawl” or “amulet”. So, don’t worry that regular intake of Viagra will cause dependence of your organism on it.

Viagra Interactions

The effectiveness and safety of Viagra when taken together with other drugs for the treatment of erectile dysfunction is doubtful and insufficiently studied, therefore it is not recommended. It is forbidden to use Viagra together with nitrates and donators of nitric oxide, because Sildenafil citrate increases the action of the latter ones, and a critical drop in blood pressure can occur.

Cimetidine causes an increase in the concentration of sildenafil in blood plasma, so while taking it with Viagra, you need to reduce the dose of the latter.
Sildenafil citrate is allowed in combination with small doses of alcohol (about a couple of glasses of wine or a shot of whiskey). When taking medication in combination with a significant amount of alcoholic beverages, the load on the heart increases, a strong tachycardia, a hypertensive crisis or an attack of hypotension is possible. Categorically avoid any narcotics, for example, marijuana.

The absorption of Viagra in the blood and, accordingly, the speed of onset of its effect, is influenced by food eaten before taking the pill. So, when taking on an empty stomach or after a light snack, the speed of the onset of the drug effect is about twice as high as if you take a pill right after dinner. Greasy food especially strongly slows down the absorption of sildenafil. It can also weaken the action of the medicine, because it will be entering the bloodstream too slowly. Avoid gluttony before the night of love, so as not to regret the money spent and not to disappoint yourself and your partner. (Read more here)
